The wedding of Kayla & Martin is literally, one of a kind. “A long time ago, in 2010, in a galaxy far far away… Kayla and Martin met for the first time.” This is how these two self-confessed star wars nerds sum up their love story. When planning their wedding they just knew they had to incorporate their love for Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones and Disney. It is what made the day about who they are and what they love. From the wedding photo props, the cake topper, a death star floor mat, the socks on their feet to the ceremony vows – every detail was well thought out and cleverly fit the theme.
Martin popped the question to Kayla in the most romantic setting while they watched the sunset down at Cullen Bay. Kayla explained that she is a private person who doesn’t like the attention to be on her. So, when Martin dropped down on one knee she remembers wishing the world opened up and swallowed her whole. Something she can look back and laugh about now! They announced their engagement to friends and family using a Lord of the Rings quote. “I would rather spend a lifetime with you, than face all the ages of this world alone”
Wanting to get married in private, Kayla & Martin decided to hold a legal ceremony in the morning and have a celebration ceremony later in the day. Kayla adores the water so their legal ceremony was held under the trees at the Darwin waterfront. Being a super casual ceremony, she wore her favourite Darth Vader shirt. Their best friends arrived in their work and gym clothes. And, they celebrated with coffees and milkshakes.
Later in the day, they got together with everyone else at the Darwin Sailing Club and hosted the celebrations. The sailing club put on a stunning buffet dinner and a private bar. Sectioned off with beautiful potted trees, it gave them privacy to enjoy a perfect evening.
Kayla & Martin absolutely wowed us with so many impressive aspect to their wedding. Starting with the invitations, designed perfectly to announce the joining of forces. And, it didn’t stop there with the Star Wars incorporations. The table decorations were lanterns with fairy lights and greenery, inspired by Death Star while still looking pretty. Their cake was topped with a ‘Mr & Mrs’ in the Star Wars font. Similarly, the acrylic table signs were in that font too. The boys wore Darth Vader and Stormtropper cufflinks while the Bride & Groom wore matching socks. Their celebrant Taryn, was able to creatively work in quotes from their favourite movies to continue on the theme.
Kaylas family name is ‘Bond’ so naturally they have always been a fan of James Bond movies. Turning up in a friends Aston Martin was an absolute dream! Kayla decided she wanted to be comfortable in sneakers so each member of the bridal party was gifted a pair of Nike Air Jordans to wear. All in all, their day was sprinkled with their favourite things making this a celebration they are so grateful to have had.
Lastly, we asked for one piece of advice to pass on for other couples – “Make sure you have the kind of day that YOU feel comfortable with, not anyone else. Have a wedding that makes you smile when you think back on it.”
